EDO England Classic 2012 - Selsey
With the end of the Qualifyimg Campaign into the last couple of Weeks, Gary was in need
of a good tournament and picking up some valuable points. The draw saw him in Group 11,
avoiding many of the “big” named players until his board final where he would play either
Scotlands Captain, Ross Montgomery or Ian Jones if he progressed that far.
In the Last 256 Gary played and defeated Paul Luker of Berkshire 3-0. In the Last 128 he
played Chris Gatford of Sussex and Won that 3-0. Into the Last 64 and Gary took on
Connor Levett, again of Sussex, and again won 3-0. Now into the Last 32 and some Points
Gary faced Ian Jones of West Midlands, whom had defeated Ross Montgomery, and again
Gary won 3-0, making it to the Last 16 without dropping a Single leg of 501.
In the Last 16, Gary faced former Grand Slam Champion Scott Waites, Although defeated
3-0 Gary still had plenty of chances to have progressed further. But a box filled and more
points going into the Last Tournaments next weekend.
In the Pairs Gary partnered Dorset’s Ben Ward. In the first round they defeated Selsey
Youth Finalist Josh Eichen and Nathan Street (the England Open youth Finalist) 3-1.
Next up was a 3-0 win over J.Hall and M.Rogers. This was followed by a 3-1 win over Hants
Pair of Sam Rooney and D.Read. The Last 16, saw a 3-2 win over Geoff Heath and
Stephen Rose of Berkshire. Into the Quarter finals they progressed and a game against
Bens County Team mate Scott Mitchell and his Partner Richie George. Ben and Gary soon
went into a 2-0 lead and were pegged back by Scotty and Richie to 2-2, but unfortunately
the momentum went with the other pair and the Last leg saw Gary and Ben defeated 3-2.
Lithuanian Open 2012
The Last Tournament of Lakeside Qualification saw a large number of players fly to the
remaining tournaments in Romania and Lithuania for these Cat E events.
Gary progressed well through the singles meeting Ricardas Balciunas in the last 32 for a 4-0
win. A tougher game against Meelis Aule in the last 16, with this game going all 7 legs and
Gary getting through and into the Points. In the Last 8 Gary met Willy Van der Wiel and lost
out to Willy 4-1. Willy progressed to the Final and was beaten by Jimmy Hendricks. Gary now
has a tough wait, to see if he qualifies for Lakeside. The Winmau Winner may just give him
Winmau World Masters - Hull and Lakeside 2013
Well what a rollercoaster few days for Gary, and 4 days that would decide whether
he would be making the trip down to Frimley Green or not in January 2013.
In the World Masters, Gary’s quest started in the Group Stages on the Thursday Morning,
in Group 10. Gary started well with a 3-0 Victory over Ian Fields ISL. Round 2 was against
Salmon Renyaan of the Netherlands. Unfortunately Gary lost out 3-1 and the Impressive
Paul Brown went onto win the Group and Progress to the TV stages.
Into the Last 32 and the Tv stages, Gary had to hope that the eventual winner had already
qualified for the Lakeside through the Invitation table in order for himself to be joining them.
A long hard wait ensued, with Seed after seed being defeated.
It wasn’t until the Semi Final with Tony O’Shea’s defeat of Paul Brown that Gary’s place was
Confirmed and he will now play 13th Seed, Englands Steve Douglas.
Europe Cup 2012 - Antalya , Turkey
This week saw the Europe Cup take place in Antalya, Turkey again this year.
As always the Europe Cup started with the Team Event, with Scotland Winning vTurkey 9-6,
then facing Netherlands in the Next round, which Scotland narrowly lost 7-9.
In the Pairs Gary partnered Craig Baxter winning against Austria (Kuntner/Karall) in the first
round 4-0. In the second they were beaten 4-2 by the Turkish pairing of Tekin/Kayaoglu.
In the Singles Event Gary faced Kim Viljanen of Finland in the first round and won that 4-0.
Another 4-0 result in round 2 v Glenn Honoré of Denmark. In round 3 Gary faced Oliver Ferenc
of Serbia winning 4-2. In the Last 16, Gary faced Roy Bailie of N. Ireland with Gary winning
in the Final Leg 4-3. In the Quarter Final Gary faced Englands MArtin “The Assassin” Atkins
and defeated Martin 5-2. In the Semi Final Gary would meet Ulf Ceder of Finland and Gary
went on to Win that 6-3 and Move into The Final on stage on Saturday v Lakeside World
Champion Christian Kist. So Saturday Came and Gary threw himself into an early lead and
eventually Won the Match 7-4 with a 29.73 Average v Kist’s 29.45 to become 2012 europe Cup
Singles Champion. The First Scot to win it on his debut in the Europe Cup and only the Second
Scot to Win it in the Cups History. The Other being Peter Johnstone in 2002.
Lakeside World Championships 2013
This years World Championship saw a return to the Lakeside stage against
England’s Steve Douglas.
The first set was close and a story of missed doubles for Gary, eventually losing it 3-2.
The second set also went to 5 Legs and Gary took his chances to level the match
at 1 set all.
The 3rd set was again a story of missed chances, It went Steves way 3-1, with Gary sat on
40, 20 and 40 in the Legs he lost.
The Fourth set, Gary suffering again at the Doubles and losing out 3-0 whilst sat on 68, 40
Dutch Open - Veldhoven 2013
This years tournament started with a prelim round for Gary aganst Henk Bronkhorst
winning 3-0. The 1st round saw another 3-0 Victory for Gary against Bernard Hofte.
The 2nd round saw another 3-0 Win, this time against Danny Klerks. The Board
Final saw Gary again not dropping a leg as he beat Dennie de Jong to progress into
Day 2 and the Last 128.
In the Last 128 Gary faced Jeffrey de Zwaan and was finally defeated 3-2 , just missing out
on the Points and the last 64.
Scottish Open 2013
This years Scottish Open saw Gary up against Ryan Murray with a 3-1 win. In the next round
Gary faced Scott Henderson snr and won that 3-0. The 3rd round saw a close game with
Gary defeating Tony Newell 3-2. Next up was the Group Final against Tony “Viper” Eccles
with the Score at 2-2 Gary missed vital doubles to see him into the Points and the Last 64.
British Internationals 2013- Glenrothes, Fife
Scotlands first game of the Weekend was against Wales and Gary was drawn to play 5th
against David Neads for his 7th Cap.The Match went all the way, as had most in the day...but
Gary finally found a Win. Winning 3-2 with a 83.01 ave.
Against England Gary was drawn against Mark McGeeney. What a superb match this turned
out to be. Mark won the 1st leg in 15 darts. Gary took the next 2 to make it 2-1 in 14 and 18
darts. Mark levelled in the 4th with a 14 dart leg. The match went Marks way with a 12 dart leg
to win it. Garys average was 101.62 and Marks was 102.76.
Gary has now played 8 times for Scotland with 1 win.
Speedy Hire UK Open - PDC- Bolton
Gary qualified for this Yrs UK Open through the Speedy Hire Qualifiers.
On thursdays First round He played Maik Langendorf and defeated him 5-4 in a close battle.
in the Second round Gary met Dennis “Smiffy” Smith and lost out 5-1 to the experienced
Good Experience for Gary, to add to his 2 Lakeside appearences to date.
Scottish Masters 2013 and a 9 Darter
This weekend saw Gary competing in the Scottish Masters, where he progressed through his
Group. In the Last 16 Gary defeated Michael Malone 3-2 to progress into the Last 8.
In the Quarter Finals Gary Played and beat Andy Boulton 3-0. In the Semi Final Gary faced
Alan Smalland won 4-2. Into the Final Gary went and faced Ross Parsons.
In the Final Gary hit a Fabulous 9 Dart Leg to create a bit of history and also to go on and
win 4-1 to retain the title he won last year.
In the evening Gary went on to play in the Motherwell Masters against some of the PDC talent.
