Granite City Open 2013
Gary started off the competition with a 4-0 win over Grampian’s Stephen Robertson.
In round 2 Gary faced another Grampian player in Chris Johnson, this time winning 4-1.
Round 3 saw another 4-1 Win, this time against Eric Laing of Grampian. Round 4 was much
the Same against another Grampian Player this time , Dougie Best and another 4-1 win.
The next game saw Gary take to the TV Lane Stage and face Clevelands Glen Durrant.
A cracking game of darts ensued with Glen missing winning darts at Doubles and Gary taking
Full advantage to firstly pull level at 3-3 but to progress and take the 7th leg.
In the Quarter Final, Gary faced Scotland Team mate and Captain Ross Montgomery.
Another 7 leg thriller, this time seeing The Boss pregress to the Semi Finals.
In the Mixed Pairs Gary played with Louise Hepburn, Winning their First game 3-1 against
Paul Coughlin and Moira Coughlin. The next round they were defeated 3-1 by Ryan Hogarth
and Michelle Cruickshanks.
In the Mens Pairs Gary played with Alan “Chuck” Norris. In the first roiund they defeated
Dave Charnock and Scott Cambell 3-1. In The Second round they defeated Jim williams and
Jamie Holmes 3-1. In Round 3 another tough pair, Andy Boulton and Remco van Eijden,
winning again 3-1. The last 16 saw them defeat Ryan Hogarth and Richard Baillie 3-1.
In the Quarters they faced Jan Dekker and Ron Meulenkamp and were defeated 3-0.
So overall a great tournament for Gary and some more points picked up.
WDF World Cup 2013 - Canada
For Scotland’s World Cup Squad what a week it would prove to be for them and their Fans.
In the Girls Youth Single, Rebecca Graham lost out in the last 8 to eventual winner Casey
Gallagher. In the Boys Singles Bradley Weston was defeated before the last 8. In the
Youth Mixed Pairs Rebecca and Brad were beaten 5-4 by Rundle and Smith of Australia.
In the Ladies Singles, Louise Hepburn was beaten in Last 32 by Cindy Hayhurst and
Frances Lawson was defeated in the first round by Anne Willkomm of Germany.
In the Ladies Pairs Frances and Louise Were beaten 5-2 in the Semi Final by Canada.
In the Mens Events, Ross Montgomery and Alan Souter were beaten in the Quarter Final
of the Pairs by Welsh Pairing of David Smith-Hayes and Jonny Clayton. Craig Baxter and Gary
were beaten at the same stage by the English pairing of Bunting and Durrant.
In the Singles, Alan Souter lost in the Last 8 5-4 to Stephen Bunting of England. Ross
Montgomery was beaten by America’s Tom Sawyer 4-1 in the Last 64. Craig Baxter lost out to
Englands Tony O’shea 4-0 in Last 32. Gary Lost out to Thomas Junghens of Germany 4-0 in
In the 4 Man team Event, Scotland Progressed through the early stages of this 1 leg event
beating South Africa, Norway and Sweden along the way. In the Final they would face the
Team of America who had defeated England 9-2 in the Semi Final. A very nip and tuck
match with the score staying close until Scotland the Trophy back to Scotland and Team
Scotland first ever World Cup Gold Medal and Also securing an Overall Silver medal behind
PDC Qualifying School - January 2014
This January Gary competed in the PDC Q School, with 360 Entrants, competition
would be tough with Players whose Tour card had expired and New players moving
across from the BDO all trying to win a Tour Card.
4 Days of competition would see 4 cards issued each day and then 24 cards from the
Order of Merit would also be issued.
Day 3 Saw Gary gain his Card, and will now compete in the 2014 PDC Pro Tour.
